In his youth, the Head Trickster had a much sneakier hidden shelf, and also a serviceable hollow book for the squirt gun. This hidden shelf is good, but fails to meet an essential requirement of an effective hiding place: something the casual or serious observer will not find of interest. That's why the Trickster's secret compartment was a hinged bit of door facing and the hollow book was a much abused copy of Stevenson's Stories for Boys. -Head Trickster
